Ukraine's military claims Russia launches missile strike on Kyiv, Kharkiv

According to Ukrainian officials on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Russia has initiated a missile strike on Kyiv and Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city.Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, warned residents of the explosions in the city and urged them to remain in shelters until further information is provided through the Telegram messaging app.

Head of Kyiv's military administration, Serhiy Popko, along with the military administration of the surrounding region, confirmed on their Telegram channels that air defence systems were deployed to counter Russia's missile attack.

Lawmaker Iryna Geraschenko described the impact of the attack, stating that there were powerful explosions shaking their house, as reported on her Telegram.

Witnesses from Reuters have testified to hearing multiple rounds of explosions in Kyiv and its vicinity.Popko mentioned that the attack caused several cars to catch fire in Kyiv's Sviatoshyn district, located west of the city center.Kharkiv Mayor, Ihor Terekhov, also posted on Telegram, revealing that Russia targeted his city as well, affirming that there have already been multiple explosions occurring in Kharkiv.
