Get Ready to Level Up: Meet Darius McDonald, Your Go-To Life Coach for 2025!
Darius D. McDonald hails from the historic neighborhood of Elm Thicket-Northpark, located just east of Dallas, Texas, near Love Field Airport. Since 1991, he has engaged in various community outreach initiatives. His 30 plus years of corporate leadership experience have equipped him with the skills necessary to solve problems, resolve conflicts, and motivate people to achieve their best.
His journey began with his entrepreneurial grandparents, Lorene and Carl Lee, who owned and operated Carl Rogers Car Detail and Body Shop (now known as Full Detail Car Wash and Collision Repair) for five decades in Oak Cliff, Texas, south of downtown Dallas. Growing up, Darius learned the ins and outs of business from them. His primary inspiration came from witnessing his grandmother, the late Lorene McDonald-Parramore, help people from all walks of life. Whether she was coaching individuals on relationships, wellness, character building, fashion advice, or the importance of family, her home was a sanctuary for many. People traveled from near and far, sometimes needing just a phone conversation to find the breakthrough they sought in difficult situations.
Darius observed this generous spirit from a very young age until his mid-20s. He combines his grandmother's philosophy with a quote by Zig Ziglar: “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help other people get what they want.” His grandmother exemplified this principle, always having what she needed because she was a giver, not a taker.
He has integrated this mindset into his daily business practices, focusing on leading, mentoring, and coaching employees. In these roles, he aims to shed light on areas they might overlook, helping them with self-discovery rather than simply being right.
Though the role of a life coach was not widely recognized years ago, it has grown in popularity. Darius joined the John Maxwell Team (JMT) and became a Certified Life Coach in 2018. In 2022, he obtained a second certification from a different institution, which provided him with a proven, repeatable coaching program.
Darius sat down with Legend Magazine to give us more insights into his life, career and legacy.
Coaching Philosophy: What is your core coaching philosophy, and how does it influence the way you work with clients to help them achieve their goals?
Empowered action is my guiding philosophy. It means that each individual possesses the tools necessary to succeed.
This philosophy centers on assisting clients in taking courageous steps that align with their values and enable them to transform their lives.
DMAC acknowledges that even high achievers can experience results that are not as impressive as they desire. They are capable of accomplishing tasks that few others can, yet every new challenge often feels like a significant leap forward for them.
I'm a firm believer empowered focus leads to better results.
Challenges & Breakthroughs: What are the most common challenges you see your clients face, and how do you help them overcome these obstacles to experience breakthroughs in their lives?
The most challenging aspect of personal growth is overcoming the belief that someone or something outside of ourselves is the hero of our lives. In society, we have been programmed to think we must be like superheroes, often falling into various patterns of comparison. Some of these patterns are generational, while others are habitual, shaped by what we have been told or what we have witnessed in how others respond to life's unfolding moments.
Each of us possesses six mental faculties: Imagination, Memory, Intuition, Reason, Perception, and Will.
To achieve better results in life, we need to harness our will and utilize these faculties to create paradigm shifts.
In my experience, the quote from Henry Ford resonates deeply in the 21st century:
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”
Success Stories: Can you share a particularly memorable success story from your coaching practice that highlights the impact of your work?
There are four key areas of focus:
1. Body Health
2. Occupation
3. Love Connection
4. Financial Independence
Many people believe they should excel in all areas. However, with guidance from a DMAC life coach, you'll find better results in the specific area that shows potential for growth.
I had a client who worked a 9 to 5 job in corporate for several years but did not achieve the financial freedom she desired. Over a 12-week period, we collaborated on strategies that helped her improve her situation. The key was making it a daily habit to dedicate a specific amount of time each day to her business. As a result, she is now a successful full-time business owner.
I firmly believe in "The Rule of 100": If you spend 100 hours a year—approximately 18 minutes a day—on any skill, you will be better than 95% of the world in that discipline. This rule emphasizes that success stems from consistency, hard work, and discipline, rather than just talent.
Success comes to those who put in the daily effort.
Future Trends: In your experience, how has the field of life coaching evolved in recent years, and what emerging trends do you foresee shaping the future of coaching?
The life coaching industry has experienced significant changes since I started my journey. It has evolved from featuring a few prominent figures to a wave of emerging trendsetters. The focus is shifting from one-on-one coaching to group coaching, with an increasing emphasis on masterminds and masterclasses. As the world embraces virtual coaching, in-person events are becoming less common. Often, they are being replaced by either one in-person session combined with a virtual component or by entirely virtual meetings. This shift is primarily driven by the need for distance and time efficiency for both clients and coaches. Additionally, there is a noticeable trend toward niche specialization.
The life coaching market is projected to grow significantly between 2024 and 2030. Notably, life coaching is currently the second fastest-growing industry in the U.S., following closely behind the IT sector.
Self-development and self-discovery have become more accessible due to social media and influencers providing constant content. Therefore, it is critical to partner with a life coach who aligns with your specific needs and goals.
