Breaking Barriers in Rural Healthcare: How Felicia Hunt's Journey Led to Bridging Disparities
In 2001, Felicia Hunt embarked on a journey that would define her career and passion for helping others. As a registered nurse, she was eager to make a difference in the lives of her patients and bridge the gaps in healthcare. Little did she know that she would become a voice for the most vulnerable in our society and a champion for healthcare equality.
Fast forward to 2020, a year that presented the world with unprecedented challenges. It was during this time that Felicia Hunt decided to put her experiences and knowledge into writing. The result? "Remembering the Year 2020: Bridging the Gaps in Healthcare," a thought-provoking book tackling the critical issue of health disparities in rural communities.
Published by Fulton Books in 2022, the book serves as a quick reference guide for healthcare professionals and individuals interested in understanding and addressing the healthcare inequalities that exist in our society. Felicia Hunt delves into the root causes of these disparities and offers potential solutions to bridge the gaps.
But Felicia Hunt's dedication to improving healthcare doesn't stop at writing. She is also a philanthropist, sponsoring the Bully Avengers, an organization that aims to protect society's most vulnerable individuals from human rights violations. Her commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of those who are often overlooked is commendable.
In addition to her philanthropic work, Felicia also uses her platform to speak on topics related to preventive care and healthcare cultural diversity. She believes that in order to create lasting change, we must address the root causes of these inequalities and work towards a healthcare system that is inclusive of all individuals, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.
Felicia's journey towards healthcare advocacy began early on in her life. With a mother who suffered from diabetes, kidney failure, and required dialysis, Felicia gained firsthand experience and practice in caring for someone with complex health needs. At the age of 19, she became a nursing assistant, providing care and support to those in need.
Driven by a desire to do more, Felicia pursued further education and worked in critical care. Today, she is a geriatrics nurse practitioner, specializing in caring for individuals aged 65 and older. Through her work, she has witnessed the limited access to quality healthcare that people of color face, particularly in rural and low-income communities.
Looking towards the future, Felicia Hunt has set a goal for herself for 2024. She aims to raise awareness about healthcare disparities in rural and low-income families and advocate for better access and quality of care for all individuals, regardless of their background.
