On New Year's Day, a tragic and deadly crash occurred near the Kodak Center in Rochester, New York. A large sport utility vehicle struck a smaller SUV as it was exiting the Kodak Center parking lot, causing the vehicles to go through a group of pedestrians at a crosswalk and into two other vehicles. The collision resulted in a large fire that took nearly an hour to extinguish.
Two adults in the smaller SUV were pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the SUV suffered life-threatening injuries. In addition, three pedestrians were struck during the incident, with one in critical condition and two others with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is being led by the Joint Terrorism Task Force, including local police and the FBI, due to the presence of at least a dozen gasoline canisters in and around the SUV. Law enforcement officials are currently looking through the devices and social media of the driver of the Ford Expedition and are urging the public to come forward with any information related to the incident.
The incident is being treated as a potential terrorism matter until proven otherwise, and authorities are working to determine the cause and the circumstances surrounding the crash. This tragic event has led to an outpouring of condolences from local officials and an appeal for patience as the investigation continues.
